Different diet explained: The Vegan Diet
The vegan diet. A diet that is pretty controversial. Is it healthy? Is it really better for our planet and the animals?
In this post, we will cover what veganism is, what you can eat and all the health-related questions.
Vegans don’t eat any animal products. They differ from vegetarians because vegetarians only exclude meat and fish out of their diet. But vegans also exclude honey, eggs, milk, cheese, and gelatin.
Some vegans also make sure they don’t wear leather or clothes made by any animal product. And most vegans make sure they don’t use makeup or beauty products that are tested on animals.
Most people follow this diet because they care about animal well being. This is the most popular reason to go vegan.
But some people also do it because of health reasons, environment or the world food problems.
Around 1944 Donald Watson came up with the term ‘Vegan’. He was an animal rights activist that together with the vegan association set up the first vegan society.
This is now the oldest vegan society in England.
At first, vegan mend a vegetarian that does not consume dairy. But now this includes all animal products.
Right now there are a lot of meat substitutes out there that are great for vegetarians and vegans so that they still get in enough micronutrients.
What do you eat?
Vegans can still eat a lot of food types like fruits, nuts, vegetables, legumes, and grains. When they watch their diet they can get all the necessary vitamins and minerals to keep your body going.
It is also possible to get enough protein ( by combining grains and legumes) and enough healthy fats (by nuts and oils).
Since veganism gained great popularity of the past few years there have been many recipes out there that are completely vegan.
Like vegan brownies, cookies and vegetable burgers. This makes the vegan diet still enjoyable and gives it great variety.
Veganism does not equal health. It does however positively influence blood cholesterol, blood pressure, and body weight.
So why does it not equal health? Because it is easy to get nutrient deficiencies. It is easy to get low on vitamin B12, omega 3 fatty acids, iron or sink.
You can, however, get these nutrients from supplements or some meat replaces where they are added into.
As a vegan bodybuilder, it can be harder to gain muscle, that is because there are not many vegan protein sources out there.
In order to gain muscle, you need progressive overload, a slight calories surplus and a high protein intake. So the last thing can get a little hard.
That doesn’t mean that it is impossible to do. You just need to focus on your protein intake.
A great way to do this is to find a vegan protein powder out there, where you can supplement with. One of the best quality protein powder out here is vegan and you can find it here!

The vegan diet can be a great diet as long as you make sure you get enough protein, healthy fats and the nutrients your body needs. It can lower the chances of obesity and heart problems.
It can, however, be a very difficult diet to maintain while traveling or eating out. Even in social situations like having dinner at your friends’ house can be a problem.
Make sure you think about this before going vegan, it will make social situations ( that include foods) a lot harder.
Before going vegan go to your doctor and check if there are maybe things you need to be extra careful with. Have a diet that has a lot of variety and enough nutrients and you will be fine 99% of the time.
So go out and try the vegan diet if it sounds like something you want to do!
